The Friends of the Somers Library

Mission

The Friends of the Somers Library mission is to work with the library staff to meet the needs of a contemporary library. To do that, we will seek donations from the Somers community to go towards programming and resources for the library not covered in the library’s operating budget. These programs and resources will be designed to benefit the diverse interests of our town.

Library Donations

Gift and Memorial Books

Purchasing gift and memorial books is a wonderful and unique way to remember loved ones or to mark special occasions such as births and birthdays, graduations, weddings, and anniversaries. Civic-minded businesses might also want to make a contribution to the community by donating a reference set or magazine subscription to the library.

With your tax-deductible contribution, the Library will purchase an item in the category you choose. For instance, if the person you are honoring with a memorial book was an avid gardener, the Library will be happy to enhance its collection by selecting a book about gardening. If you are a physician, you might choose to sponsor a donation to the health reference collection.

Acknowledgment of your gift is sent to the individual or to the family of the person being honored. A bookplate imprinted with your name and the name of the person being honored is placed in the book before it goes on the shelf for check-out.

Donations to the Somers Library enable us to offer additional resources to the reading community. For further information, please call the Library Director at 914-232-5717.

Books and other materials

The Friends of the Somers Library’s ongoing book sale is in need of donated items. Please call the library before coming to the library with your donations.

Acceptable donations include:

  • Paperback and hardcover fictiona and non fiction books. Must be clean and like-new.
  • Non-fiction books should have been published within the last three years.
  • Music CDs and DVDs in like-new condition. Limit ONE bag, small quantities.
  • No more than 20 books may be accepted at one time
The Library reserves the right to evaluate, select and dispose of any donation that does not meet the needs and/or policy guidelines of the Library’s collections. Donated items cannot be accepted with any conditions.
Not accepted: Textbooks, videocassettes, eReaders & electronic devices older than 3 years old, Reader’s Digest condensed books, or National Geographic magazines.
Items may be dropped off at the Reference Desk in the Library during our regularly scheduled hours.
