Books:
We have nearly 60,000 books available, which include fiction
and non-fiction materials. In addition, we have an
expanding collection of reference materials offering the most up-to-date
information.
Magazines &
Newspapers:
The
Somers Library subscribes to approximately 95 nationally known
magazines, including children's, business, scientific,
sports, hobbyist and general news magazines. In addition, 22 newspapers
are received
regularly by the library. Access to local area and state newspapers, as
well as major national papers and business
journals, is available through our electronic
databases.
Audio Recordings:
We
have over 3,500
recorded materials available for your use. These include audiobooks (on
both CD and cassette) and musical CDs
that cover the spectrum of genres -- from classical to jazz, from folk
to pop, from opera to country. Audio materials are available for all
age groups.
Video/DVD
collection:
The
Somers Library
has an ever-growing collection of DVDs and VHS tapes - more than 4,500
items - that include classic and newly-released films for all ages. We also have a collection
of non-fiction materials on a variety of subjects - travel, how-to,
history, sports, literature, art and music.
Reference Service:
Come
in, email (somers@wlsmail.org),
or call us with your questions. We will be glad to help
you with your information and researching needs, by utilizing our traditional and
electronic resources.
Interlibrary Loan Service:
The
Somers Library is
a member of the Westchester Library System, which allows Somers patrons
to borrow books from any of the member libraries - in person or by
placing a hold through our catalog. All you need is your library card!
In addition, we can request print materials (only
books - no
audiovisual materials) from libraries outside of the
system. Please allow more than a
week or two for delivery, as these materials may be sent from another
county or another state.
Children's
Programs:
Story
hour sessions for preschool children are held regularly. Please check
the Children's Room for
the calendar of events. Every summer, the Children's Room sponsors a
summer reading program for preschool and elementary
age students. You may sign your children
up by speaking with our Children's Librarians.
Computer
Access:
The
Somers Library
has 4 Internet-capable computers in our adult department, 2
Internet-capable computers in our Children's Room and a dedicated
computer for searching our online catalog. There are also 2 gaming
computers in our Children's Room and one for young adults.
And yes, we do have wireless Internet access available! It will easily
connect with your Mac or Windows laptop.
Caregiver Resource Center
Americans
are living longer. The care of a dependent older person is a
significant issue for a spouse or adult child. Frequently, the
Caregiver feels overburdened, isolated, in need of information.
Caregivers may now avail themselves of a variety of resources designed
to provide relief from caregiving responsibilities. The Somers Library
is one of five Caregiver Resource Centers (CRC) in Westchester County.
Each center houses a collection of information and materials to support
caregivers of older adults, as well as older adults caring for children
under the age of 18. The collection includes books, videos, pamphlets,
reading and resource lists, and other materials.

with the library's policy and procedures for handling
